Understanding chiropractic care

Focusing on how the spine supports movement

Our chiropractic service supports people experiencing back pain, neck pain, joint stiffness and movement restrictions. Following a detailed assessment, treatment may include manual therapy, joint mobilisation and tailored rehabilitation advice. Chiropractic care focuses on the relationship between the spine, joints and the way the body moves. Restrictions in these areas can contribute to discomfort, stiffness and reduced mobility.

Through careful assessment and hands-on treatment, chiropractors aim to restore healthy joint movement and support the body’s natural ability to move comfortably.

Supporting spinal health and mobility

Improving how your body moves every day

Healthy spinal movement plays an important role in posture, flexibility and everyday mobility. When joints become restricted or muscles tighten, it can affect how the body functions and how comfortable movement feels.

Chiropractic treatment works to improve joint mobility and reduce tension, helping patients move more freely in daily life.

Chiropractic FAQs

What is the difference between physiotherapy, osteopathy and chiropractic care?

So many myths around the answer to this question and you will usually get a different answer from different people. Most of the differences have become somewhat historical. Chiropractors and Osteopaths are usually associated with using more manipulative techniques, but more private Physiotherapists use this now as well. Undergraduate training differs, but so much learning takes place after graduation anyway. We are all trying to help you and your body move freely and pain free so that you can enjoy the things you want to do.

If you've got a good practitioner, who spends time assessing and treating you as an individual, lays out an adaptable plan for your care and gives you tools to help look after yourself with lifestyle advice/exercises, then the name of the professional largely shouldn't matter.

Do I need a referral to see a chiropractor?

No. In most cases you can book a chiropractic appointment directly without a referral from a GP or specialist. Many people choose to see a chiropractor when dealing with back pain, neck discomfort, stiffness or reduced mobility.

What happens during a chiropractic appointment?

Your chiropractor will begin with a detailed assessment to understand your symptoms, medical history and how your spine and joints are moving. They will then explain the likely cause of your symptoms and discuss the most appropriate treatment approach.

What conditions can chiropractic care help with?

Chiropractic care is commonly used to help manage conditions affecting the spine, joints and muscles. This includes back pain, neck pain, headaches, postural problems, joint stiffness and some sports-related injuries

How many chiropractic sessions will I need?

The number of sessions depends on the nature of the problem, its severity and your recovery goals. Some patients improve within a few visits, while others benefit from a longer course of care to support recovery and mobility.

What is a chiropractic adjustment?

A chiropractic adjustment is a hands-on technique used to improve movement in the joints of the spine or other areas of the body. The aim is to restore normal joint motion and reduce tension that may be contributing to discomfort or restricted movement.

Is chiropractic treatment safe?

Chiropractic care is widely used to support spinal health and mobility. Your chiropractor will assess your condition carefully before recommending treatment and will always discuss the most appropriate approach for your situation.

Will chiropractic treatment hurt?

Most chiropractic treatments are gentle and designed to improve joint mobility and reduce tension. Some people may experience mild soreness after treatment, similar to how muscles can feel after exercise, but this usually settles quickly.

What should I wear to a chiropractic appointment?

It is best to wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move easily. Your chiropractor may ask you to perform simple movements during the assessment to better understand how your spine and joints are functioning.
